Lupo Wolf Sanctuary
Address: 138 Route du Sanctuaire, Saint-Fabien-de-Panet, Quebec
Website: https://sanctuairelupo.com
In the heart of Parc des Appalaches, you’ll find the Lupo Wolf Sanctuary, a truly unique place in Quebec.
We were welcomed by Luigi, the founder, who left his quiet life in Laval to pursue a slightly crazy dream in a region he barely knew at the time: creating a sanctuary for wolves. In just a few years, Lupo Sanctuary has become one of the must-visit attractions in the Chaudière-Appalaches region.
The guided tour is fascinating. Luigi shares his journey, explains the story behind each wolf, and highlights their unique personalities. That’s when we met Résilience Lakota, the alpha female, Shadow the male, as well as Matsi and Akira, two beautiful wolves with beige coats.
After the visit, we discovered our mini pod for the night.
And honestly… it’s adorable.
The small glass-front shelter has electricity, a microwave, an induction cooktop, and everything you need to prepare a simple meal. Inside, there’s a double bed and a sofa bed, perfect for a family of four… or, like us, three kids happily piled together in one bed.
Outside, there’s a picnic table, a barbecue, and an incredible view overlooking the wolves’ territory. A heated chemical toilet is also available nearby.
But the real highlight is the huge panoramic window.
Résilience Lakota seems particularly curious about children and often walks right in front of the glass. Honestly… it’s much better than television.
After dinner, we headed out to explore the illuminated trail, about one kilometer long on the site. Hanging lights guide the path, and we pulled the kids in a sled the whole way.
With the moon above us and the wolves nearby, it truly felt like we had stepped into another world.
During the night, we woke up to the wolves howling. And in the early morning… we heard them again.
Waking up at sunrise and hearing wolves howl is an experience we won’t forget anytime soon.
And the look in the kids’ eyes at that moment was absolutely priceless.
Zoo Miller

Before heading to the zoo, we made a delicious foodie stop.
Les Pères Nature
Address: 575 Boulevard Vachon Nord, Sainte-Marie, Quebec
Website: https://lesperesnature.com
It’s a local gourmet grocery store filled with homemade dishes made from regional products. Their ready-to-eat section is impressive.
Our favorites?
The club sandwich on a baguette.
Huge. Fresh. Delicious.
And the raspberry juice. You absolutely have to try it. It’s mandatory.
We had a little picnic in our Casita before continuing on to Zoo Miller.
If you’ve ever watched the show Un zoo pas comme les autres, you might already know this place. And the name fits perfectly — this really is far from an ordinary zoo.
We were able to observe several impressive big cats up close: lions, a jaguar, and a leopard. The bears, wolves, and lynx were also among our biggest highlights.
The visit takes place mostly outdoors, but three indoor buildings allow you to warm up and take a break from the cold.
The winter atmosphere gives the zoo a completely different feel. The animals seemed particularly active and alert. Maybe it was luck, but we were really treated to a great visit.
A nice hot chocolate from the zoo’s canteen was the perfect way to end the experience.
La Poutine d’Or
Adresse : 345 Route Cameron, Sainte-Marie, Québec
Site web : https://lapoutinedor.com
To end the day, we stayed at Hôtel La Cache du Golf in Beauceville.
It’s a beautiful hotel with large, bright rooms and an incredible view over the Beauce valley. The sunset that evening was simply spectacular.
But the detail I loved the most?
At the front desk, you can borrow board games and bring them up to your room. We discovered new games and worked on puzzles together as a family. It was such a nice moment to slow down and enjoy the time together.
The hotel also has a three-season pool that opens during the summer months.
We’re definitely keeping that in mind for a future summer stay.
Centre de Ski de la Vallée
Address: 300 Route du Mont-Orignal, Vallée-Jonction, Quebec
Website: https://skidelavallee.com
We started the day with a great breakfast at the hotel restaurant.
I don’t know why… but breakfasts in Beauce always seem to be excellent. Perfect toast, eggs, bacon, fresh fruit, and generous portions.
With full bellies, we headed to Vallée-Jonction for a day of tubing at Centre de Ski de la Vallée.
Three large tubing runs were waiting for us. The kids went down again and again, racing each other on their tubes and bursting into laughter.
Even the cousins were there to share the fun.
And yes… another little poutine at the ski center snack bar to end the day.
Because if you’re in Beauce… you might as well.
