I think I found the perfect address for your next trip to the Gaspésie. If you and your family love adventure and relaxation, this is the place for you. Located in Percé, Folies Boréales is super well located too: you'll find adventure and relaxation in the same spot.
We arrived at Folies Boréales after several days on the road. We were warmly welcomed by Marion, who drove us up to the forest playground on her ATV. The kids were already thrilled.
We started with the tree-top course, for me, Nicolas and Charlie, while Alaska did her course for the little ones with Guillaume. The kids' course is so well designed: the same challenges as the adult one, but with safety nets underneath, so it's completely safe and just as fun.
Anaïs kindly explained how the harnesses work and how to move around in the trees, and off we went. Nicolas is 6 years old and was just tall enough to do the course (1m20/47in): he did the easiest one with us, then went to join his little sister for the two harder courses.
Charlie took to it like a fish to water. She loved the green course so much that we headed straight for the blue one, then the red one to finish. Climbing, zip lines, and plenty of other surprises awaited us: we had such a great time. Plan for about 2 hours to complete the whole course.
After our course, we tried the reverse bungee jump... well, I was the only one who tried it, my partner didn't want to, and I was terrified! You get launched 15 metres into the air and fall back down in free fall... it's unique in Canada, so despite my fear, I had to try it! I laughed like crazy, but I was proud I did it. When Charlie saw me do it, she decided to try too! She flipped forward and looked completely traumatized... I felt like the worst mom, until she burst out laughing and wanted to do it again and again. Oops, we created an adrenaline junkie!
In the evening, we head back to our campsite: a bubble in the forest, with an outdoor BBQ, picnic table and hammock. We grilled up some good chicken on the BBQ while the kids played soccer with the neighbouring bubble. Pure happiness! We lit a fire, made s'mores, then went to bed in the bubble.
What's cool is that the window is huge and you can see the stars if the sky is clear. A big, super soft and comfortable king bed awaits you, with two hidden beds underneath as well. Super comfortable, it's really a luxury bubble! The kids loved playing with the multicoloured LED lights on the headboard, a nice touch. They say you can also spot moose in the forest if you're quiet... we didn't see any!
We get up and, after making myself a good coffee in the bubble, we have a leisurely breakfast at our picnic table. Our new friends from the bubble next door tell us they're heading back to the giant trampoline, so we follow them, once again in the direction of the nets up in the trees.
Something I hadn't mentioned: there's also a giant trampoline suspended in the trees, with inflatable balloons. The kids spent at least two hours there, before it was finally time to leave.
It's truly a must-visit spot for families. The tree games are so much fun, the bungee jump is perfect for thrill-seekers, and the forest bubbles are just so different! I had never seen anything like it, it looks like a giant inflated igloo, it's really fun. If you're single or a couple, there are also suspended tents in the trees that looked really cool to try!
We spent two wonderful days at Folies Boréales, and if you'd like to try the experience too, here's some useful info.
